Isaac is Seven Months Old!

This month has been a month of playing! Now that Isaac is a sturdy sitter, he has been sitting and playing with toys for long stretches of time. His current favorite toys are a firetruck and the ball machine. He can easily go from sitting to laying on his belly, and as you saw in the last post, he's starting to move around now. This next month is guaranteed to be a fun one for Isaac!

He loves our daily routine around the house, especially when we go play on Noah's bed after nap time in the afternoon. Isaac loves to roughhouse and he and Noah start off hugging but end up rolling around on the bed while laughing. Isaac is surprisingly strong and can hold his own against his brother. Bathtime is one of his favorite things, too. He loves to splash and play with his bath toys, and he thinks it's even more fun when Noah takes a bath with him for extra splashing. He also loves our daily after-dinner walk around the neighborhood. He usually dozes in the stroller and then is ready for bed when we arrive back home.

Isaac went on his first trip this month when we visited Baubie, and he did great on the trip. He is also making lots of noises now, his favorite is "Ah ya ya ya ya," which we sometimes hear all day long.  As the month as progressed, he has developed more strong opinions about what goes on in his life.  I'll post the story of the highchair later this week.

We went for his 6 month check up a week and a half ago, and Isaac's measurements were:
19 lbs, 10.5 oz. (75th to 90th percentile)
28 in. long (90 to 95th percentile)
17 3/4 in. head circumference (75th to 90th percentile)

Isaac, you're no longer content to watch from the sidelines.  You're becoming able to get yourself in the middle of everything that's going on.  We love you and have been blessed by you for seven months now!

Here's some other photos from our photo shoot.

On The Move!

Isaac is officially on the move! He is starting to see-saw (pre-crawl), where he puts all his weight on his face on the floor and pushes forward with all his might using his legs. Using this sheer brute force, he can really move places! In this series of photos, Isaac moved at least six feet through a combination of see-sawing, rolling and pivoting.

I sat him up on his play blanket with his toys and went in the kitchen to make dinner. The next time I looked over, Isaac had gotten on his belly and he was already off the blanket! His only goal was to get himself to the Duplo house that Noah had just created. It was a lot of motivation because he worked very hard to get there! I wasn't sure what Noah's reaction was going to be to his brother's interest in the Duplos because he had just worked hard to build the house. Noah came over and helped me cheer Isaac on toward the house, and when Isaac reached it and began to tear it apart, Noah helped him by completely dismantling it and piling all the blocks up for his brother to play with. Noah thought it was pretty cool that Isaac could move so far!

New Favorite

Oh my!  This is my new all-time favorite picture of the boys.  I'm going to order a print and get it framed very soon.  I love the moment this photo captures, and it's further proof of my theory that if you take enough pictures, you're bound to get a good one.

Here's the story behind the picture:  Noah and Isaac were having a lot of fun in the hammock, but the camera was nowhere in sight.  After about five minutes, Noah was finished and got out of the hammock and started playing in the backyard.  I took Isaac into the house and got the camera and forced encouraged Noah to get back in the hammock with his brother in hopes of getting a good picture.  Noah was not a willing participant at all the second time around.  If you look at the above picture, you can see that Isaac seems to have a somewhat happy look on his face, but if you look at Noah's arm you can see that it's flexed and pushing Isaac away while his hand is on Isaac's head just about to grab a fist-full of his hair.  If you keep looking closely, you can see that the look on Noah's face is not one of love for his brother, but one of annoyance.  Here's the series of photos.

That's the beauty of a photo, though.  I look at this one and only see my two boys having fun in a hammock.

Cherub

We've rediscovered our hammock, and now everyone loves swinging in it.  Isaac loves lounging in it while we push him.  What's not to love?

Baa Moo Farm

We went to Baa Moo Farms a few weeks ago with our MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group. Noah loved seeing all the animals there, but his favorite were the calfs. This calf, Sam, was got so excited when Noah got close to him and started mooing and nodding his head up and down. Noah laughed while he was petting the calf's head and ears, and the calf licked Noah's arm. Noah said, "He's trying to eat me!" Here's some more pictures from our outing.

Our Dedicated Gardner

It's a good thing that Noah loves watering our flowers so much. The days are getting hotter and Noah prefers to water the flowers at least twice a day. The flowers might actually survive through the summer with all the water they're getting! Noah walks outside and says, "Can you hear that? Listen! The flowers say 'We're thirsty!'" then he uncoils the hose, turns the water on and gets to work.

Noah is Three Years Old!

Wow, Noah! Look at you! You're getting bigger!

Do you want to see how big you are now?
Well, here's a picture of you just one year ago when you had your second birthday...

And here's a picture of you two years ago when you had your first birthday...

You have grown up so much in the last year. I've looked back at your calendar so I can tell you about all the things you've accomplished in the last year:
* when you turned two, you were just starting to say two-word phrases.  Now you talk in complete non-stop sentences.  You talk all the time, even in your sleep and when you're alone.
*  You learned to ride a tricycle
* Your love of music, especially drums and guitars, increased to the point that you now play or listen to music for long periods everyday
* Your vivid imagination continued to develop, and it's very fun for us to see what you can come up with when you're playing.  Now, you pretend to be different people while you're playing drums or guitar.
* You learned to use the potty and dress yourself
* You sleep in a big boy bed now
* You became a big brother and are completely in love with Isaac

We love you, Noah!  We can't wait to see what the next year will bring!

Happy Birthday Noah!

Happy Birthday to Noah! He has been looking forward to turning three for quite a while now. We had a great day of celebration. Noah opened up his presents in the morning and was surprised to find great books, a jack-in-the-box, a tambourine, a guitar stand, and much more. But, best of all was the djembe (an African drum). Well, you can just tell how he felt about the djembe from his face in the above picture.

We went to church then out to lunch at Moe's, one of Noah's favorite restaurants and he devoured the "Moo Moo Mr. Cow" burrito. Then it was nap time, more play time with the new toys, dinner and birthday cake and a walk around the neighborhood. Quite the perfect day! Here's some more pictures of our celebration
